The airport had been out of service due to damages sustained during the two-year brutal war in the Tigray region.
The plane carrying 140 passengers including the CEO of Ethiopian Airlines, Mesfen Tasew, as well as federal and regional officials, was welcomed upon arrival at the airport earlier today, according to the local Tigray TV.
